ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ira Levin (August 28, 1929 -  November 12, 2007)

After graduating from New York University with majors in philosophy and English, Ira Levin served in the army.  His father had wanted him to join the family toy business but agreed to support his son’s writing career for two years. Even before the deadline came to pass, Levin found employment writing for television. His first produced play, an adaptation of Mac Hyman's No Time for Sergeants, opened in 1955.

His novels (most of which he adapted for film) include A Kiss Before Dying  (1953), Rosemary's Baby  (1967), The Stepford Wives (1972), The Boys from Brazil  (1976) and Sliver  (1991). His best known works for the stage are Critic's Choice (1960),  the musical Drat! The Cat! (1965). Veronica's Room (1973), and the Tony-nominated Deathtrap (1978), which became Broadway's longest-running mystery.
